Detailed description

The outdoor area

Cortijo de la Era consists of two self-contained cottages. Both cottages are available to rent (each sleep a maximum of four people). Each cottage opens onto the outside patio where you can lounge under the sun, or enjoy an evening cocktail around the pool. The spacious patio means everyone can enjoy the space at the same time. The property is fenced, which means small pets are safe and welcome. You will be able to enjoy the panoramic views, with the Sierra Gorda opposite and a valley that stretches all the way to Malaga. There is a shady orchard right next to the house – ideal for a summer siesta.

The interior space

Each cottage has the authentic feel of an old Andalusian house. The thick walls, typical of this style of home, keep the interiors cool even when temperatures soar to 35 degrees outside. Each house consists of two floors, with a charming staircase connecting the two spaces.

To stay true to the rustic charm of the Cortijo, we have opted for a simple décor, choosing to keep the original features of the cottages like the rough white walls and the dark wooden doors, intact.

Each cottage consists of two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a shower room with toilet, and a sitting area with an open fireplace. Each bedroom sleeps two people. One room has a double bed, the other has two single beds, but other arrangements are possible (e.g. four single beds, or two double beds, available upon request).

The kitchen is equipped with a new induction hob and a fridge. All crockery and essential kitchen utensils are provided (glasses, cups, plates, pans). The kitchen also has a microwave oven and a barbecue is at your disposal outside on the patio. We have chosen to keep the amenities to a minimum, in line with our values. This means that there are no electrical accessories, such as a capsule-based coffee machine, or a food processor, etc. However, there is everything needed to have a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

It’s a place to disconnect. There is no television nor wifi, but the phone connection works.

Sheets and towels are provided, which are changed once a week. A washing machine, regular housekeeping and pool towels are available at an additional cost.

The immediate surroundings

At 100 meters, you will find the source of Cévico. The quality of the water is so famous that the villagers walk 4 kilometers there and back to fill their bottles. The water of the swimming pool comes from the source. You are swimming in pure water 🙂

At 2 kilometers, you reach the small village of Ventorros de San José. You will find three local grocery stores, a bakery, a butcher, a pharmacy, a medical consultation center, and of course, several bar-restaurants where you will fall for the generous tapas that accompany each drink you order.

At 17 kilometers, you can reach Loja, a small town full of restaurants, shops and services of all kinds.

Gourmets will love the gastronomic restaurant Le Piola, located in Algarinejo, about twenty kilometers away. Chef Diego will welcome you for a simple drink or an 8 to 12 course menu coupled with great wines, served in the heart of the village, at unbeatable prices.

Walking enthusiasts will be delighted, with large wild spaces within reach of the shoe: olive groves, cliffs, lake,… La Era is located in the middle of hundreds of kilometers of paths to be discovered. You will enjoy breathtaking landscapes and you can also swim in waterfalls, lakes and springs during a hike. We are passionate about nature and we will be happy to provide you with information or to organize getaways in the region for you.

Andalusia

Marked by the history of cohabitation with the Arab world, which leaves us with extraordinary vestiges, the region of Andalusia is as big as three times a country like Belgium. It offers you an incalculable number of getaways.

Culture lovers will find in La Era a strategic location, since Ventorros de San José is practically the navel of the 3 or 4 great historical cities of Andalusia: Granada, Cordoba, Malaga and Sevilla. Each of these great cities with exceptional heritage, classified by UNESCO, is located about an hour’s drive from the cottage (a little more for Sevilla). Among the must-sees: the Alhambra of Granada (city built by the Arabs at the foot of the Sierra Nevada), the cathedral of Cordoba (which « ate » a mosque, from an architectural point of view) or the Picasso museum in Malaga.

Lovers of natural sites will be able to discover the lake of Iznajar and its wild beaches, the cool waterfalls of Algarinejo, the Torcal of Antequera and its incredible geology, the dizzying King’s Trail (reservation required), the natural hot waters of Alhama de Granada, Sierra Gorda, Sierra Tejeda, Sierra Nevada or the Nerja Gorge. All these places are accessible in 60 to 90 minutes from the cottage. If you are ready to drive a good two hours, you can then access the superb beaches of Cabo de Gata, Tarifa or Cadiz.

How to get to "La Era"

La Era cottage (a place called « Cévico ») is located about 2 km from Ventorros de San José on the road that leads to Las Rozuelas. We are 70 km from Granada and 90 km from Malaga, in Andalusia, in the south of Spain.

To access it very simply, here is how to do it:

1. Join Andalusia

If you come by plane, Malaga airport, on the coast, is the best served. But there is also an airport in Granada, Sevilla or Almeria.

If you come by train, there are fast train lines that serve Malaga and Granada. From there you can take a local train or bus to the town of Loja.

If you come by car, take the A92 motorway, which connects Granada to Malaga. Exit at Loja, taking exit 188, coming from Malaga, or 193, coming from Granada.

2. Reach the village of Ventorros de San José

The nearest medium-sized town is Loja, in the province of Granada.

From Loja, head towards Ventorros de San José or Priego de Córdoba. A recently renovated switchback road climbs about 15 km up the mountain.

Enjoy the view that extends over the entire plain of Granada, with the Sierra Nevada and its snow-capped peaks in the distance for a good part of the year.

3. Reach the lodge from Ventorros de San José

Once in Ventorros de San José, you have several options:

  • Step by step: You are near the petrol station at the entrance to the village of Ventorros de José. Take the first left. The road climbs very steeply. Go to the end of this road, then turn left (a sign should point towards Sierra Martilla). Once you are on this road, continue for 2 km. La Era (Cévico) is on your left, a little below.
  • Andalusian style: La Era has no street name nor number. Once in the village of Ventorros de San José, ask « Cévico? » to the locals, they will point you in the right direction with a big smile in a very Andalusian Spanish… hang in there 😉
  • With GPS: Enter the coordinates 37°13’42.9″N 4°09’55.9″W into your GPS. You can also locate the lodge on the map below to orientate yourself.
  • Escort: We can also welcome you to the village of Ventorros de San José and accompany you to La Era… it is certainly the most comfortable solution for you and the most pleasant way to get to know each other 🙂 The easiest is to make an appointment at the petrol station, just at the entrance to the village.

The official address of the lodge is as follows:

Cortijo La Era (Cévico)
18311 – Ventorros San José (Granada)
